ANNOUNCEMENT and CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
As was noted in an earlier email, this falls MAAPT meeting will happen
SATURDAY OCTOBER 31 2009 AUGSBURG COLLEGE MINNEAPOLIS
(home: www.augsburg.edu;
directions: www.augsburg.edu/about/mpls_map.html )
The focus of this meeting will be physics laboratories. A number of folks from MAAPT schools attended the AAPT Topical Conference on Advanced Laboratories last July; the second of the two panel discussion sessions will center on advanced labs and the results of that meeting. If you have not already done so, please check out
http://euclid.hamline.edu/~arundquist/php/maapt/maaptfall2009.php
to record your vote on the potential panel discussion topics listed there (or to suggest another).
Saturdays schedule:
0815 - 0930: Panel I: Moderated panel discussion on issues related to lower-division laboratories (general education / algebra- or calculus- based surveys)
0930 - 1030: Break (refreshments, posters, continuing discussions)
1030 - 1130: Paper session: Contributed papers (preferably directly relevant to laboratory course issues)
1130 - 1245: Panel II: Moderated panel discussion on issues related to upper-division laboratories (what are objectives/outcomes? goals? etc.)
1245: Lunch and business meeting (including post-mortem on the day's activities)
CONTRIBUTIONS of two types are solicited:
(1) volunteers to serve as panelists - - each would give a 4-5 minute opening statement, and respond to questions/comments. Please send your name and an indication of the panel on which you'd like to serve to pnienabe at smumn.edu .
(2) contributed papers for the paper session - - please submit an abstract (75 words max) with title for each presentation, along with how much time you would require. Abstracts may be e-mailed (in plain text, or as .doc, docx, or .pdf attachments) to:
