DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM IS THE END OF THE
BUSINESS DAY, FRIDAY APRIL 11, 2008
Student papers are especially encouraged at the spring meeting. Awards
will be made for the best student oral presentation and poster, in
addition to the Bruce Eaton award for the best demonstration.
Here is a reprint of the message from Leon Hsu about the QuarkNet
presentation at the meeting:
At the meeting, there will be presentations on QuarkNet (http://
quarknet.fnal.gov/), a program designed
to help interested high school physics and physical science teachers
incorporate particle physics into their classes. There will be
presentations by a staff member from the national office and by local
high
school physics teacher Jon Anderson. There will also be hands-on
demonstrations of the educational materials that QuarkNet has to offer.
The University of Minnesota recently received a grant from QuarkNet to
offer a five-day workshop on the U of M campus in July 2008 (with an
additional afternoon/evening in May and October) for high school physics
and physical science teachers. Participants will receive a $500
stipend,
up to $250 for a research mini-grant, and visits to particle research
laboratories, in addition to the hands-on experience in particle physics
education techniques. The MAAPT meeting will provide a good place for
interested teachers to learn more about the program and to apply to
participate in the workshops.
Please spread the word to anyone you think might be interested in this
opportunity. Questions can be directed to me (Leon) at lhsu at umn.edu or
612 625 3472.
