MAAPT members:
Just a quick reminder that the Spring 2008 meeting will be held at
Macalester College on Saturday April 26. At the meeting, there will be
presentations on QuarkNet (http://quarknet.fnal.gov/), a program designed
to help interested high school physics and physical science teachers
incorporate particle physics into their classes. There will be
presentations by a staff member from the national office and by local high
school physics teacher Jon Anderson. There will also be hands-on
demonstrations of the educational materials that QuarkNet has to offer.
The University of Minnesota recently received a grant from QuarkNet to
offer a five-day workshop on the U of M campus in July 2008 (with an
additional afternoon/evening in May and October) for high school physics
and physical science teachers. Participants will receive a $500 stipend,
up to $250 for a research mini-grant, and visits to particle research
laboratories, in addition to the hands-on experience in particle physics
education techniques. The MAAPT meeting will provide a good place for
interested teachers to learn more about the program and to apply to
participate in the workshops.
Please spread the word to anyone you think might be interested in this
opportunity. Questions can be directed to me (Leon) at lhsu at umn.edu or
612 625 3472.
A call for posters and papers (including the competition for the best
undergraduate research presentations, both oral and poster) will be coming
soon.
Thanks,
Leon Hsu
